Downloading Skype
- With your Internet browser open, enter www.skype.com in the address line to open the Home page of the Skype Web site. Click the Download button on the Skype home page to open the Download page.
- Skype will begin the download to your computer. It will automatically determine the operating system, device and the Web browser that you are using. This screen will tell you what to do after the program downloads.
- If the download doesn’t start automatically, you will be able to start it manually by clicking on Start Download Again.
- After you click to download the program, you may be prompted to save or open the program SkypeSetup.exe. Always choose to save the file to your hard drive. Do not open or run the program during the download process.
- Select Save to Disk: Choose an easy-to-remember location, such as the Windows Desktop, and click OK. Remember this location so that you can double-click the file after it is saved.
Installing Skype
- Double-click the SkypeSetup program that you just saved
- If a User Account Control windows pops up asking you for permission, just click Continue or just click Run if you have that option.
- The installer program then asks you to read and accept the End User License Agreement. You need to accept this to continue the installation.
- As soon as the installation is complete, the program launches itself.
- Click on the Let’s Go option to continue. Next, click on the Sign-in or Create button to log in to your Skype account or create a new one.
Set up Skype Account
- You can use your Skype ID, phone number or email to log in, or click on the Create One option if you don’t have a Skype account.
- Next, you can use your phone number to create your account, or you can use your email ID instead of your phone number by clicking on the below option. Enter a valid Email address in the given box and click on the Next button. It also provides an option to create a new email address.
- Skype asks you to verify your email account. You can find the four-digit Skype verification code in your email inbox. Enter the verification code and click on the Next button.
Sign-in Using Skype Account
- Next, the program asks you to set up your microphone and webcam. You can test the audio & video and make necessary changes in their settings. Or you can click on the Skip button to do it later.
Locate Skype ID
- Using the Windows desktop app: Click your profile icon at the bottom left of the app. Click on the small circular image of your account. This will open up your profile. You can see your Skype username displayed under your name.
- Using the Android app: Click on the menu button to open the sidebar. You can find your Skype ID displayed under your name.
- Using the iOS app: The iOS users simply have to tap on the “My Info tab” to see their Skype username under their actual name.
Block or Unblock someone in Skype
- From the Chats or Contacts tab, right-click or tap and hold on the contact you want to block, then select View profile.
- Scroll to the bottom of the profile window and select Block contact.
- Click on the Block this contact option
- Once you block the contact, they are removed from your chats and contact list.
Make a Skype call
- From the top of your window, select
People, groups & messages.
- Note: For Android users, tap the Search
button.
- In the Search Skype field, type the name, Skype name or email of the person you want to call and use the telephone icon to make a call.
