How to improve your laptop battery life
With the unprecedented power outages, it is always good to have all your devices fully charged hence the new OCA ABC - Always Be Charged
To ensure that you have a few more hours of your battery life during these periods, we recommend that you take some time to configure the following settings on your laptops.
1. Change the power settings
- By default, your laptop might be set to Windows’ ‘Balanced’ setting rather than Power Saver.
- To manage power settings, right-click on the battery icon on the taskbar, then select “Power Options”
- Select a power plan with the settings you want to start.
- Under "Plan name," type a descriptive name for the new power scheme.
- Click the Next button.
- Using the drop-down menus, select when your computer should turn off the display and when it should go to sleep.
- Click the Create button.
- Now click the Change plan settings link next to your custom power plan.
- optimize the settings using drop-downs and click on "Save Changes" as shown below.
- It is best to turn off display at least 5 minutes of inactivity whether plugged in or on battery.
2. Don’t leave your laptop on permanent charge
- Lithium-ion batteries should have overcharging protection, but it’s not good for the long-term health of your battery to leave your laptop always plugged into the power socket.
3. Disconnect or remove unnecessary peripherals
- Newer laptops are unlikely to have a disc drive, but any USB accessories you leave connected, such as portable hard disks or USB webcams will also draw power, so unplug them if they’re not needed.
4. Manage your memory
- If you’re the sort of person who has 10 or even 20 tabs open in your web browser, you’ll benefit from longer battery life by close those tabs.
- The same goes for running lots of applications at the same time.
5. Dim the screen
- Dimming the screen brightness can add 30 minutes or more to your battery life.
- By using the Windows + I keyboard shortcut and click or tap on System.
- The System category opens in the Display tab. Use the slider under "Brightness and color" to "Change brightness for the built-in display.
- You can also enable the "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes" option to have your device automatically change the brightness level based on how much light its sensors are measuring in your environment.
We hope the new OCA ABC will help you during this time.
